Tadesse grew up in rural Eritrea at 2400 metres above sea level where, as a boy, he already had to walk up to 20km to school every day. In 2004, following the World Cross Country Championships in Brussels he moved to Switzerland. He became a Swiss citizen in 2014. Tadesse lives in Geneva, is married and has a son.
Following his most successful marathon year to date - 2016 saw him take the Swiss record, become the European half-marathon champion and take seventh place at the Olympic games in Rio. He's setting his sights high this year: namely, taking on the European record and the next Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. On the way, he'll be up against the running elite at national and international city runs as well as the largest international city marathon events in London, Berlin, New York, Paris or Chicago.
Thanks to his lovable and humorous personality he is an extremely popular and well-received personality not only in the running scene.
